Comfort through scripture

Bible Verses for Anxiety

Anxiety is a heavy thing to carry. The Bible does not promise a life without worry, but it does promise a God who is near to the anxious heart, who speaks peace over fear, and who invites you to lay your cares down.

Verses to read when anxiety feels heavy

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6, 7

This is the invitation. Do not carry the weight alone. Bring it to God with thanksgiving, and his peace will stand guard over your heart and mind.

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Matthew 6:34

Tomorrow has enough trouble of its own. Today, you are asked only to trust for this day.

I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 34:4

The Lord does not ignore fear. He hears it, and he delivers from it.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isaiah 41:10

You are not left to face this in your own strength. God is with you, and he promises to uphold you.

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

1 Peter 5:7

Cares are not meant to be carried in your hands. Cast them on him, because he cares for you.

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 55:22

When you hand the burden to the Lord, he becomes the one who keeps you steady.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

Fear is not your native language. The Spirit gives you power, love, and a clear mind.

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 14:27

Jesus gives a peace the world cannot give. You do not have to let your heart be troubled.

Why scripture helps with anxiety

It reminds you that you are not alone

Anxiety often says you are the only one who feels this way. Scripture answers that lie with the presence of God.

It gives you words when yours feel thin

When your mind is racing, you may not know what to pray. A verse gives you language to hand back to God.

It places truth in front of your thoughts

Fear is loud. A verse is a quiet, true voice you can return to until the noise settles.

It leads to action

Scripture does not just comfort. It invites you to pray, cast, trust, and move forward one day at a time.

Make it personal

You can read these verses and stop there. Or you can let them become the beginning of a daily conversation with God. My Daily Devotional & Journal starts with a few questions about your season, including the anxiety you are carrying, and chooses a verse for you each day. You receive a warm note about why it is for you, a written prayer you can say out loud, and a private journal for your reflection.
